Timber Door Company makes doors to measure and fits them across England, Wales and Scotland. We do one thing, which is why we are fussy about it.

Why we survey first

Almost no opening in a British house is square. Lintels settle, cills wear, frames are packed out by whoever came before. A door made to a catalogue size and then planed to fit is a door with its protective finish cut through on the edges — which is exactly where water gets in. So we measure at several heights, record what we find, and make the door to suit.

Why the finish happens in the workshop

A sprayed finish applied in controlled conditions goes on evenly, covers the top and bottom edges most site painting misses, and cures properly before the door is handled. Painting on site means brush marks, uneven film thickness, and a door in the weather before the coating has hardened.

Why we specify by exposure

A door on a sheltered inland porch and a door facing the Irish Sea are not the same product. Salt-laden air holds moisture against the surface and corrodes standard ironmongery within a few years. Wind-driven rain on higher ground forces water at the joints. We pick the timber, the coating and the ironmongery against the conditions your door will actually face — which is why our local pages talk about exposure rather than just listing a town name.

What we guarantee

Ten years on the joinery and the factory finish, with the survey record kept on file. First-season adjustment is included, because timber settles and buildings move, and a small tweak after a winter is normal.
