Timber doors in Dorset

We survey, make and fit made-to-measure timber doors throughout Dorset, covering 11 towns from the workshop to the fitted door.

Coastal openings. Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Christchurch, Bridport, Swanage sit close enough to open water that salt-laden air drives the specification: Accoya or dense hardwood, a high-build microporous coating and grade A4 marine stainless ironmongery.

Conservation areas. Dorchester, Bridport, Wimborne Minster, Sherborne, Blandford Forum, Shaftesbury carry designated conservation areas or listed frontages. Common questions

What timber holds up best near the coast?

Accoya first, then dense hardwoods. Modified timber barely moves with humidity swings, which is exactly the load a coastal door is under.

How often should a coastal door be recoated?

Three to five years on exposed elevations, against seven or more inland. Salt-facing elevations always go first.

What door suits a Victorian terrace?

A four-panel door with a bolection moulding and an etched or obscured upper light. Stile widths matter — narrow modern stiles make the proportions look wrong immediately.

How do you price glazing?

By area and specification. Obscure and etched glass costs more than clear; leaded and stained panels are priced per panel once the pattern is agreed.

What is the difference between a door and a doorset?

A doorset is the leaf, frame, seals and ironmongery supplied together and pre-hung. It fits faster and performs more predictably than parts assembled on site.

Do you handle planning applications?

We do not submit on your behalf, but we produce the elevational drawings, sections and specification that conservation and planning officers ask for.
