Timber doors in Dumfries and Galloway

We survey, make and fit made-to-measure timber doors throughout Dumfries and Galloway, covering 7 towns from the workshop to the fitted door.

Coastal openings. Stranraer, Annan, Kirkcudbright sit close enough to open water that salt-laden air drives the specification: Accoya or dense hardwood, a high-build microporous coating and grade A4 marine stainless ironmongery.

Conservation areas. Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Moffat carry designated conservation areas or listed frontages. Like-for-like timber replacement is rarely refused; changing material or glazing pattern usually is. We produce drawings for consent applications.

Common questions

What door suits a Victorian terrace?

A four-panel door with a bolection moulding and an etched or obscured upper light. Stile widths matter — narrow modern stiles make the proportions look wrong immediately.

How do I look after the finish?

Wash the door twice a year with mild soapy water and check the bottom rail and cill for standing water. Recoating intervals depend on exposure and aspect — south and west elevations go first.

What if my opening is not square?

Very few are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several heights and the door is made to suit, with the frame packed and scribed on fitting.

Is there a guarantee?

Ten years on the joinery and the factory finish, with the survey record kept so any claim is straightforward to deal with.

Do you take a deposit?

A deposit is taken when the order is placed and the balance on completion. Nothing is payable before the survey and the written quotation.

What ironmongery do you supply?

Everything from period butt hinges and rim locks to modern multipoint systems, in finishes from polished brass to satin stainless. Coastal sites get marine-grade stainless as standard.
