Solid oak or oak veneered?
Veneered on an engineered core is more stable and usually the better choice for internal use. Solid oak is heavier, moves more, and costs considerably more.
What door suits a 1930s semi?
A three-panel door with a wide glazed head, often leaded in a sunburst or geometric pattern. The glazed area is proportionally larger than on a Victorian door.
Will the colour fade?
Modern microporous coatings hold colour well, though very dark colours on south-facing elevations work hardest. We will advise if a chosen colour is likely to be a maintenance burden.
Do you work on listed buildings?
Regularly. Listed building consent is a separate process from planning, and we can supply the drawings and specification your application needs.
What happens if the door needs adjusting later?
First-season adjustment is included. Timber settles, buildings move, and a small tweak after a winter is normal rather than a fault.
Can you replace the frame as well as the door?
Yes, and often it is the better answer. A new leaf in a rotten frame will not seal properly however well the door itself is made.
