Timber doors in Hampshire

We survey, make and fit made-to-measure timber doors throughout Hampshire, covering 13 towns from the workshop to the fitted door.

Coastal openings. Southampton, Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Lymington sit close enough to open water that salt-laden air drives the specification: Accoya or dense hardwood, a high-build microporous coating and grade A4 marine stainless ironmongery.

Conservation areas. Winchester carry designated conservation areas or listed frontages. Like-for-like timber replacement is rarely refused; changing material or glazing pattern usually is. We produce drawings for consent applications.

Common questions

What timber holds up best near the coast?

Accoya first, then dense hardwoods. Modified timber barely moves with humidity swings, which is exactly the load a coastal door is under.

How often should a coastal door be recoated?

Three to five years on exposed elevations, against seven or more inland. Salt-facing elevations always go first.

What door suits a 1930s semi?

A three-panel door with a wide glazed head, often leaded in a sunburst or geometric pattern. The glazed area is proportionally larger than on a Victorian door.

Do you fit in winter?

Yes. Clearances are set for the season and the finish is already cured, so there is no waiting for weather to paint on site.
