Timber doors in Lancashire

We survey, make and fit made-to-measure timber doors throughout Lancashire, covering 12 towns from the workshop to the fitted door.

Coastal openings. Blackpool, Lytham St Annes, Morecambe, Fleetwood sit close enough to open water that salt-laden air drives the specification: Accoya or dense hardwood, a high-build microporous coating and grade A4 marine stainless ironmongery.

Conservation areas. Lancaster, Clitheroe carry designated conservation areas or listed frontages. Like-for-like timber replacement is rarely refused; changing material or glazing pattern usually is. We produce drawings for consent applications.

Common questions

What door suits a Victorian terrace?

A four-panel door with a bolection moulding and an etched or obscured upper light. Stile widths matter — narrow modern stiles make the proportions look wrong immediately.

Will a timber door swell and stick?

Timber moves with humidity, which is why clearances, sealed end grain and a breathable finish matter. A door made to the correct moisture content and finished on all six faces stays workable through the seasons.

What is engineered timber and why use it?

Engineered stiles are laminated from several sections with the grain alternated, so the door resists twisting far better than a solid section of the same size. Under paint it is the more stable choice.

Do you fit as well as supply?

Both. Most customers take supply and fit, which keeps the guarantee in one place. Supply-only is available if you have your own joiner.

What glazing goes in a timber door?

Sealed units in a range of obscure, etched, leaded and clear finishes, bedded and beaded from the inside so the glass cannot be removed from outside.

How energy efficient is a timber door?

A modern insulated timber door with a sealed unit performs comparably to composite alternatives, and timber itself is a far poorer conductor than aluminium or steel.
