Timber Door Frames in Pembrokeshire

If you are replacing a door in Pembrokeshire, Timber Door Frames are cut to your actual opening rather than to a nearest standard size.

7 of the 8 towns we cover in Pembrokeshire are coastal, where Accoya or dense hardwood and marine-grade stainless ironmongery are the sensible specification, and 3 carry designated conservation areas where the glazing pattern and mouldings need to match what is already there.

Timber moves. The trick is not to stop it but to allow for it — correct moisture content at the workshop, sealed end grain, a finish that lets vapour out and keeps water off, and clearances set for the season you fit in.

Price and lead time in Pembrokeshire

Common questions

Should I replace the frame with the door?

If the frame has softened at the foot or the cill is shedding water inwards, yes. A new leaf will not fix a frame that has failed.

Which ironmongery survives salt air?

Grade A4 (marine) stainless steel. Standard A2 stainless and lacquered brass both fail within a few years within about a mile of open water.

Does sea air really affect a timber door?

Yes, in two ways. Salt is hygroscopic so it holds moisture against the surface, and airborne chloride corrodes standard ironmongery quickly. Both are solvable at specification stage.

What door suits a stone cottage?

A ledged, braced and boarded door with long strap hinges. Openings are usually low and rarely square, so the door is made to the opening as found.

Will a timber door swell and stick?

Timber moves with humidity, which is why clearances, sealed end grain and a breathable finish matter. A door made to the correct moisture content and finished on all six faces stays workable through the seasons.

What is engineered timber and why use it?

Engineered stiles are laminated from several sections with the grain alternated, so the door resists twisting far better than a solid section of the same size. Under paint it is the more stable choice.
